The hotel images on the “Package holidays” page are provided by CHECK24. Where there is none, we show images from free sources: photos from Wikimedia Commons and official aerial images. We deliver all of them via our own server and show them as a crop in the size of the card concerned. The free images always state what they show: a hotel photo, an aerial image of the location or the destination.

On the home page, we also show destination photos and header images from our travel guides across the full width behind the heading: as a crop, darkened and tinted, so that the text on top remains readable. The short form of the credit for the header image currently shown is at the end of the home page; the full details for every third-party image are below.

The names of German surveying agencies and their datasets, and the mandatory credits of all agencies, are given in their original wording.

Hotel images from CHECK24

The hotel images in the hotel list and on the dates page are provided by CHECK24 (TARIFCHECK24 GmbH) as part of the CHECK24 partner programme; we show them with CHECK24’s written permission. The rights to the images lie with the hotels, tour operators and picture agencies that provide them to CHECK24.

Hotel photos from Wikimedia Commons

We only show photos of individual hotels if we have checked that they really show that property. The year the photo was taken is shown on the image; buildings may have changed since then.

Aerial images of the location

Aerial images show the surroundings of a hotel from above, centred on the hotel; we added the marker. They are official orthophotos under free licences — which ones is stated for each agency. Each aerial image carries the mandatory credit of the agency concerned.

Hotel locations: OpenStreetMap

We take the exact location of a hotel, and where the marker in the aerial image belongs, from OpenStreetMap data. Data © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0.

Places to stay without a price on the map: Overture Maps

The name, type and location of the places to stay without a price in the hotel search come from the “Places” dataset of the Overture Maps Foundation, each from a current monthly release. Credit: “© Overture Maps Foundation”, Community Data License Agreement – Permissive 2.0, Source. Individual entries come from Foursquare Open Source Places (Apache License 2.0) and from All the Places (CC0 1.0). Edits: limited to places to stay, uncertain and duplicate entries removed, the type simplified and the data split into map tiles.

Weather in the app: MET Norway

The weather at the destination in the Nighthopper app comes from the forecast of the Norwegian Meteorological Institute (MET Norway), retrieved via api.met.no. Credit: “Wetter: MET Norway”, licence CC BY 4.0 (alongside NLOD 2.0, licence and credit at MET Norway). Edits: related to the destination airport, combined into one weather condition and one daily maximum, and rounded to whole degrees.

Videos on the home page

Behind the heading of the home page, we show short videos without sound, in a smaller version on mobile: the same for everyone if no destination is chosen, otherwise one for the destination or, if there is none, one from its country. The clips come from Pexels and are covered by the Pexels licence. It does not require a credit; we name the videographers anyway. Edits: shortened (5 to 10 seconds), re-encoded without sound, colour-matched for the clip from London, played in a loop with a short fade-out, shown as a crop, darkened and tinted. As of: 30 September 2026.

The Nighthopper app shows stills from some of these clips as its changing header image: the preview image Pexels supplies with the video, as a square crop. The place and the videographer are shown in the app below the image and here in the list. As of: 4 October 2026.

Photos for “Hotels by theme”

On the home page under “Hotels by theme” and on the page of the same name, there are photos from Pexels, covered by the Pexels licence. It does not require a credit; we name the photographers anyway. The photos show the theme or the destination, not a place to stay from the hotel search. The “Sunny Beach” photo shows the old town of Nessebar at the southern end of the beach. Edits: cropped, reduced in size, and the large photos darkened so that the text on top remains readable. As of: 1 October 2026.
