Hotels by theme

Six destinations for each theme: choose one and we’ll show you suitable places to stay with our partners’ prices. We filter using the details from Google’s hotel search – exactly how is explained below under “How we filter”.

Places to stay by theme and destination

For these destinations we check every week which places to stay our partners offer – with stars, Google rating and amenities on one page.

How we filter

Hotels with a pool
Google’s amenity filter “Pool” – whether it’s indoors or outdoors is shown by each property.
Castle hotels
Google has no filter for this. We ask Google’s hotel search for “castle hotels” in the chosen country and only show properties with Schloss, Burg, Castle, Château or Castello in their name. This works for countries, not for regions.
Holidays with your dog
Google’s amenity filter “Pets allowed”. Whether and how your dog can come along (size, number, fee) is up to the place to stay. This doesn’t mean a dog hotel with special offers for dogs.
Wellness and spa
Google’s amenity filter “Spa”. What’s included (sauna, massage, pools) varies from property to property. For us, a wellness hotel is any property that Google lists with a spa.
With beach access
Google’s amenity filter “Beach access”. How close the property is to the water is shown on the map in the search. For us, a beach hotel is any property that Google lists with beach access.
All-inclusive
Google’s amenity filter “All-inclusive available”: the property offers all-inclusive. Whether a price in the list includes it is shown by the provider.
Holidays with children
Google’s amenity filter “Kid-friendly”. What there is for children (children’s pool, playground, childcare) varies from property to property – the amenities are listed for each place to stay. The filter doesn’t check for a family-hotel label or guaranteed childcare.

Clicking a destination opens its page with the places to stay from our weekly sample – where there isn’t one yet, our hotel search with this filter, initially for three nights in two weeks’ time; you can change the destination, dates and guests there, and the filter stays on. We only show places to stay that one of our partners offers – they pay us a commission. How we sort is explained under How we sort results.

Photos from Pexels; they show the theme or the destination, not a place to stay from the search. The photographers are listed in the image credits.
