Finland has been an EU member since 1995, part of the euro area since 1999 and of the Schengen Area since 2001; the currency is the euro. Throughout the country it is one hour later than in Germany, because Finland uses Eastern European Time. The official languages are Finnish and Swedish. In 2025, 827,520 passengers boarded at the main German airports bound for Finland, ranking 28th among 211 destination countries. Around 82 per cent of them flew to Helsinki-Vantaa (both own analysis of the German Federal Statistical Office data). Information on entry and safety is provided by the German Foreign Office.
