In 2025, around 2 million passengers flew from the main German airports to destinations that the German Federal Statistical Office assigns to Switzerland: most often Zurich, then Geneva and Basel-Mulhouse (own analysis). Switzerland is not in the EU but is part of the Schengen Area. Payment is in Swiss francs; on 25 September 2026, €1 was worth 0.9445 francs. The time is the same as in Germany. The EU rule “roam like at home” does not apply, and according to Eurostat, restaurants and hotels were around 52% more expensive than in Germany in 2024. The rules on entry, safety and health are set out by the German Foreign Office.
