Hungary has been an EU member since 1 May 2004 and part of the Schengen Area since 21 December 2007. Payment is in forint (HUF); the euro is not the national currency. The time is the same as in Germany, and in an emergency the European emergency number 112 applies. In 2025, a total of 1,011,847 passengers flew from the main German airports to Hungary, 97% of them to Budapest, followed by Debrecen (own analysis of the Destatis data). The rules on entry, safety and health are set out by the German Foreign Office.
