Egypt uses the Egyptian pound (EGP, also LE), divided into 100 piastres. The pound devalued sharply in 2024, so prices in older guidebooks are often no longer correct. In winter it is one hour later than in Germany (UTC+2), and from the end of March to the end of April there is no time difference. Since 2023, summer time (UTC+3) has applied from the end of April to the end of October.

Friday is the Islamic weekend. At archaeological sites, admission tickets are increasingly available only by credit card, and German plugs fit (types C and F, 220 V).
