Georgia
Tbilisi became the capital of the Kingdom of Iberia in the early 6th century, when King Dachi moved the royal seat here from Mtskheta. Today 1,369,400 people live in Georgia's capital, more than a third of the country's population. The name comes from the Georgian “tbili”, meaning warm, after the hot sulphur springs.
The old town covers around 2 km² with the bath district, Narikala Fortress and churches dating from the 6th century. From TBS airport, bus 337 runs to the centre from 1 GEL (as of September 2026).
