Thessaloniki is the second-largest city in Greece. In 2025, 880,632 passengers flew there from the main German airports, ranking 24th among all destinations abroad. “Makedonia” airport lies around 15 km from the centre, and since 27 August 2026 bus X3 has run from there to the new Mikra metro station. The Early Christian and Byzantine monuments have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988, the royal city of Aigai near Vergina since 1996. The resorts on Halkidiki lie 45 to 120 km from the airport.
