According to the Reiseanalyse 2026, Greece was the fourth most popular destination abroad for holidays of five days or more in 2025, with a 5.6% market share. From the main German airports, around 5.2 million passengers flew to Greece in 2025, most often to Crete, Athens and Thessaloniki. According to the Greek tourism authority, the country has 6,000 islands, 227 of them inhabited, and 20 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Payment is in euros, and the clocks are one hour ahead of Germany. The rules on entry and safety are set out by the German Foreign Office.
