In 2025, Mallorca ranked first among all destinations abroad from the main German airports: around 4.9 million passengers boarded flights to Palma de Mallorca. PMI airport lies 8 km from the city of Palma. Direct buses run from there to Playa de Palma and the Calvià coast, and from the end of March to the end of October also to the Bay of Alcúdia and to Cala Millor. The Serra de Tramuntana has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2011. For every night in tourist accommodation, a tourist levy of up to €4 per person plus 10% VAT applies; children under 16 are exempt.
