In 2025, Japan ranked 26th of 211 destination countries with 865,588 passengers from Germany (own analysis of Destatis table 46421-09). Most landed at Tokyo-Haneda, followed by Tokyo-Narita and Osaka-Kansai; most flights started in Frankfurt and Munich. The country has 27 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the new ones since 2026 being the ancient capitals Asuka and Fujiwara in Nara Prefecture (as of September 2026). Payment is in yen, and Japan Standard Time is 9 hours ahead of UTC. What applies to entry, safety and health is set out by the German Foreign Office.
