For travellers from Germany, Austria is straightforward: German is spoken, payment is in euros, and the mains voltage is 230 volts. The time is the same as in Germany, with summer time from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October.

In Vienna, the Federal President has his official seat in the Hofburg, and St Stephen's Cathedral is the tallest church in the country. ÖBB Railjets also stop at Vienna Airport. Current travel and safety advice is published by the German Foreign Office.
