In winter, Tenerife is divided in two. At the southern airport, the weather service AEMET records an average of 21.7 °C by day in January and 1.8 rainy days, while the north side lies in the trade winds and is wetter and greener. In between, Teide rises to a good 3,700 m, with frost and snow at altitude in winter.

The island has two UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Teide National Park and the old town of La Laguna. International traffic runs mainly via Tenerife South (TFS), while the northern airport TFN mainly serves domestic routes.
